Standing on His Promises

“By which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises,  that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature….”  2 Peter 1:4 (NKJV)

These are days when everything seems to be changing so fast that we find it hard to keep up. The old standards that  provided  purpose and surety  are eroding in the culture; we need to put  our  faith  in Jesus Christ and the strong promises of His word.  When there’s no stable foundation on which to stand, the promises of God are a sure support. In this week’s devotional post,  I have put together a list of Bible verses for our encouragement.  I hope you will read them,  meditate on them, and find  strength to live confidently in Christ.

“The joy of the Lord is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10

“For God did not give us a  spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.”    2  Timothy 1:7 (NIV)

“His compassions fail not. They are new every morning:
great is thy faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22, 23

For I know  the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord,
thoughts of peace and not of evil,
to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11 (NKJV)

“Fear not, for I am with you: be not dismayed;  for I am your God;
I will strengthen you; yes, I will help you; I will uphold  you
with  my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV)

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.” Psalm 23:6

“For I the Lord your God  take hold of your right hand saying, Do not fear, I will help you.” Isaiah 41:13 (NKJV)

Be careful for nothing, but in everything; by prayer and supplication
with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:5

“Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High,
your dwelling place,  no evil shall befall you,
nor shall any plague come near your dwelling.”  Psalm 91:9,10 (NKJV)

Even  youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall,
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.
but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run  and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:29-31 (NKJV)

“When the enemy shall come in like a flood,
the spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.” Isaiah 59:19

“Cast your burden  on the Lord, and He shall sustain you.”  Psalm 55:22

A popular gospel song says, “If you know the Lord, you need nobody else.” He truly is everything we need; he has all the answers to our questions.   Perhaps you have some favorite verses of your own that you rely on. Pull them out and  meditate on them and let them speak to you.  We can joyfully  say with David, “The Lord liveth, and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.”

Always,

Judith

Oh, my dear Iris, what would we do without the promises? They’re a source of solace and strength, not only in our bad times but also in our everyday life. We thank God for His Word. Thanks for sharing. JN

Hi Judith, these scriptures are a great reminder of how great a God we serve. I often remind myself while Journaling of Pastor Wintley Phipps’ gratitude ‘mantra’ prayer. “Thank you Lord for your Presence, Protection, Provisions, Power and Peace.”

    Thanks for encouraging us.

      Hi Fartema,
Wintley Phipps’s five-point words-to-live-by are worth adopting for a part of our morning prayer. Living with an attitude of gratitude strengthens our spiritual life. The Word of the Lord is a strong tower. Thanks for commenting. JN
